Glock 30 Problems - After a good rest, I am back to commenting. As the new year begins, I think it's time to introduce one of the firearms that I think is most deserving of a review. In April 2008, I bought my first pistol. When looking for my first concealed carry gun, my interest fell on the Glock 36 pistol. "We don't have any," said the man behind the gun counter. Instead, he picked up the same black pistol and placed it on the counter. I held the gun firmly with both hands and aimed the gun at the ground while moving on the U-slot behind the front sight. The dual-stock magazine grips fill my palm and the balance feels very natural. "This is great," I thought. This is the third generation Glock 30SF in 45 auto.
Six years have passed since that purchase and I carry a Glock 30SF (G30) almost daily. I can confidently say that I carry it with me at least 300 days a year. The remaining sixty-five days are spent not leaving the house or carrying other firearms. But what about shooting? I put about 2,000 rounds of factory ammo in the pipe. I started reloading in 2009 and ended the year with 3,514 reloads. As of November 19, 2014, the pistol has recorded 14,830 reloads, all in 200 and 230 grams. Load. Most are 230g. loads, but some interesting statistics are in order. Split in half between the two loads, I estimate 454 pounds of lead sent through the G30. I used six recoil spring assemblies, three slide stops, and at least 8 pounds of smokeless powder. All in all, I know a thing or two about the G30.

My reviews usually provide context and introduce you to the gun, this is an exception. There are tons of reviews on Glock pistols and I can't add too much without beating a dead horse that has been sausaged too many times. I'll go over the pros and cons of the G30 as they relate to my experience.
Glock 19 Gen 4 Problems
First, let's rule out some pitfalls. This thing is black. If you want a less than ideal solution for your first concealed carry pistol, get the G30. I stuck with it because I'm stubborn about this kind of thing. Pistols don't wear properly. Given the wide variety of calibers and designs currently offered, if I were to make another purchase, I would much prefer other pistols. You may have heard of a "gun worn around." With the G30, you'd better dress nicely around the gun, as it certainly won't tolerate a slim-fitting polo shirt and pants that fit you. This pistol requires a 1 inch larger waist strap than normal and high quality leather to provide adequate back support.
Having said that, let me give you some information about my carry system. The Horsehide Galco Royal Guard IWB was my first and only G30 holster. It looks great and I am definitely buying and have already purchased additional Glaco holsters for other firearms. My mag pouches are Gould & Goodrich 851 dual mag belt slides. With years of wear, the leather shows a nice luster and is as durable as galco. Finally, we have gun straps. Mine is a 1.75" custom belt from Thebeltman.net. A G30 with two extra magazines can take a toll on your body if mishandled. There are belts, and then there are gun belts. If you want to carry it every day, buy a gun belt from Thebeltman.net. My body is probably three years old. In service and my back is fine.
Back to the pistol. As you can see from the photos, my G30 is clearly not stock. One modification/upgrade I made was a Storm Lake aftermarket bucket. Since most of my reloads are buckshot, I am looking to use a standard rifle to eliminate all thoughts of the dangers of using buckshot for polygon rifles. You'll see everything you've seen before, except the barrel. Stock sights, original magazine release, catapult, extractor, trigger, fire control group, all original. Most of the wear is centered on the breech face and inside the sleeve. The G30 is my go-to gun for everything. I train with it and practice concealed carry draws, spot fires, plinks, praises and carries.
To the Greatest Fortune: Shooting. If anything it's a soft shot 45. Six years after my first impressions, I still believe the G30 is one of the best examples of pistol balance I've ever felt. If it looks right, it's fine. Well, the Glock is kind of ugly, but it just…feels like it. I've shot other Glock pistols and pistols, but I always speak highly of the G30 for ease of shooting.

While my example runs almost all factory ammo without fail, I've noticed occasional issues with reloading. This is usually due to the bullet being slightly spaced out to reduce the lead. This is not uncommon on brass that has been reloaded 25+ times. The reliability of Glock designs is well known. Of all the hiccups I've had with my particular pistol, most can be attributed to reloading. An example of a gun jammed with factory ammunition on Christmas Eve 2014. I make the most of rainy days by putting 220 rounds on steel. I have seen five different instances of the slide locking on a partially loaded magazine. To be fair, it was raining, magazines were dumped in mud pits, and dirty magazines were stuffed into guns all day, with obvious grit from the action. After it was fired with 140 buckshot rounds. The factory ammo that caused the problem was the Remington 230gr. JHP (L45AP7). This shows that any gun will fail with less than ideal ammunition and environmental conditions.
But a few failures around 15,000 is not too bad. The Glock 30SF is the most tested and evaluated gun I have ever owned or owned. While not the best gun to carry, I like the weight and the way it shoots. There are thirty rounds of 230gr. The JHP Golden Sabers I immediately used didn't even refuse. If I stop packing 30, I will never stop using it. Some defensive pistols double as range guns for fun. So for going to the range, hunting for steel in the woods, or buying groceries at your local stop, check out the Glock 30SF. Better yet... pick one up. I have a very strange problem with my Glock 30's. Every few magazines, the bullet would go up and get stuck on top of the feed ramp. This usually happens in the last round or two of the magazine. I've tried multiple shooters (one as a range officer and one with military personnel) and I've tried several brands of ammo.
I sent it to Glock, unfortunately they did not fix the problem. Replaced were: recoil spring assembly, two magazines, locking block, mag catch, mag catch spring.
I sent it back to Glock yesterday and am waiting for it to come back. When I figure out what the problem is, I'll post it here for anyone who has the same problem in the future.

I hope they can fix the problem. I have a 30S and have fired 2000 rounds with no problem. All rounds were 230, so maybe that had something to do with my success. I have had a 1911 for many years and am now in my 30's. I am also an old believer and only took 230.
I have owned 15 Glock pistols and except for my last pistol the ones in question have always been a drawer or RSA.
I only discovered the problem after swapping some parts with my troubled Gen 5 17 with my Gen 5 19. It also has random FTF issues.

Glock Smyrna said it was fine, not the parts, Oct 2017 (I'm close to Smyrna).
This is the burr on the lower edge of the strike pin hole on the cracked face stuck on the edge of the case. Hope this helps. Another shooter told me he had the same problem with the CZ. By the way, lightly file the burrs with the wife's glass nail file.
